Body colour greenish blue on the upper surface of the body becoming silvery towards the belly. The body is narrow long and elongated and contains a series of narrow dark blue or black bars which run vertically along the body.

Pelagic, coastal waters near islands and rocky headlands and oceanic waters; 11-200 m depth
